has been retained by VantagePoint Venture Partners (www.vpvp.com),
a world leading venture capital firm, to locate a experienced Investor
Relations Director. Position reports to the firm's co-founder who
provides general guidance and supervision. This is an opportunity
to participate in a high growth organization that is formalizing
its Investor Relations program, and where Candidate's efforts will
make an impact every day with the Firm's Limited Partners.
As a primary liaison with investors, this position requires significant
interaction with the principals of the firm and effective teamwork
with other functional roles, especially Finance and Marketing. The
candidate will also be pro-active in anticipating the firm's investor
service needs, including fund raising and related due diligence,
and providing support as required. The work environment is team
oriented and entrepreneurial, and the individual will be an integral
member of the Limited Partners Relations Committee.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Investor Relations Director is responsible
for developing and implementing a proactive, comprehensive investor
relations program. The emphasis of this high-touch role is to create
and maintain transparent communications with the Firm's Limited
Partners, build and sustain relationships with current and prospective
Limited Partners as part of a strategic effort to broaden coverage,
remain current on all company business activities in order to be
responsive to investors and to communicate effectively to management
the impact of new developments of changes in the investment community,
and manage the Firm's reputation within the private equity investment
community.
Working with Marketing, the Investor Relations
Director will develop and implement external corporate communications
to Limited Partners and make recommendations on communications strategies
and appropriate positioning and plans. Additionally, this position
will partner closely with Finance to strengthen credibility of investor
communications. Responsibility for investor related communications
includes preparation and dissemination of quarterly and annual reports,
ongoing updates on status of portfolio companies, developing and
organizing all content for investor meetings, and all fund raising
follow-up.
Candidate will be responsible for marketing and
raising capital for the Firm's new funds. This includes both development
of new investor targets as well as due diligence materials development
and follow up.
Overall, the ability to thrive in a fast paced
corporate environment is essential. Must have excellent writing,
planning, organizational and problem solving skills and be adept
at influence management. The ideal candidate must be capable of
establishing internal and external networks and working on cross-functional
teams and be a self-starter who functions well independently or
within a team.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have prior experience in
investor relations, a detailed understanding of the workings of
the venture capital and private equity markets and possess strong
presentation and diplomacy skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Limited Partner Relations
- Act as primary contact for existing and prospective Limited Partners
- Create high touch "calling program" for existing Limited
Partners
- Initiate a "new business development" program to expand
the Firm's overall investor base and reach
* Investor Communications
& Reporting
- Effectively communicate the Firm's operational and financial performance,
while establishing realistic expectations for the future performance
through a proactive and comprehensive communications program.
- Working closely with Finance, manage the capital call and distribution
notification process; ensure timely delivery of quality capital
call and distribution notices to investors.
- Manage the quarterly report distribution process; ensure timely
distribution of quarterly and annual financial statements, tax reports
to investors, Quarterly Letters and Investment Overviews which describe
new investments made each quarter.
- Prepare Fund and portfolio performance information for the Advisory
Committee meetings and Annual Investor Meeting, including 2x yearly
creation of Portfolio Company Profiles.
- Analyzes data for quality control, suitability and communication.
* Investor Requests
and Due Diligence Response
- Manage the content development and process for responding to investors'
questions and requests both routine and during fund raising, including
all diligence requests related to fund raising activities and periodic
updates with key Limited Partners.
- Handle all inbound requests including specialized reports required
by certain State pension funds. Extract data to support routine
and special investor requests.
- Prepare all fund raising materials and updates
* Administrative
Functions
- Manage the maintenance of investor files; ensure compliance with
SEC regulations and company policies on investor records.
- Manage the maintenance of investor records in the financial and
reporting database (Investran); ensures investor records are entered
and updated in a timely manner.
- Support development and maintenance of investor web portal (Intralinks)
for reporting information to investors
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be self-directed, highly motivated and
able to prioritize workload and willing to take on additional responsibilities
rapidly, based on shifting needs and requirements.
* Minimum of 7-10 years prior experience in investor relations or
related client management liaison position in a professional services
firm with exposure to partnership investments. Understanding AIMR
standards is helpful.
* Understanding of basic venture capital/private equity financial
concepts is highly desirable (taxation, partnership accounting and
structures, investment metrics, securities laws). Strong financial
analysis skills.
* Strong client relationship skills and evidence of building lasting
relationships with an institutional client base. New business development
skills a plus.
* Ability to quickly analyze, grasp and communicate financial and
economic information about the industry, the Firm and its portfolio
companies
* Strong quantitative skills and detail oriented with roll-up-your-sleeves
attitude
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support interaction
with the Firm's institutional investors. Ability to exhibit a professional
demeanor in all contact with investors.
* Business process development and management skills. Proven experience
in quality sensitive operations.
* Computer literate with knowledge of and experience in database
applications and analysis tools, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and contact
manager software. Knowledge of private equity management systems
(e.g. Investran) highly desirable.
* Undergraduate degree or higher in a business related field
* Ability to travel (moderate amount; domestic and international)
